Carpenters Motors, a division of Carpenters Fiji Pte Limited and recognized leader in the motoring industry in Fiji, is seeking applications for interested candidates for the role of Fitter Machinist to be based Carpenters Motors – Light Mechanical Repairs Workshop in Walubay, Suva. Responsibilities:

Set up and operate a variety of machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drilling machines.
Choose the appropriate tooling, feeds, and speeds for each machining operation.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to understand machining requirements.
Machine and shape components with precision, adhering to tight tolerances and surface finish requirements.
Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometres, callipers, and gauges to ensure that machined components meet specified dimensions and tolerances.
Select and handle materials, including metals, plastics, and composites, ensuring they are appropriate for the task.
Conduct quality inspections throughout the machining process, identifying and addressing defects or irregularities.
Make necessary adjustments to achieve high-quality, error-free components.
Maintain and sharpen cutting tools, ensuring they are in optimal condition.
Perform routine maintenance on machines to keep them in good working order.
Adhere to safety protocols and best practices to prevent accidents and maintain a safe work environment.
Report safety concerns and incidents promptly.
Troubleshoot technical issues related to machining processes and find solutions to challenges that may arise.
Collaborate with engineers and colleagues to resolve complex problems.
Maintain comprehensive records of work completed, including measurements, modifications, and any issues encountered during machining.
Prepare reports and document changes made to the components.
Work closely with team members and engineers to ensure effective communication and teamwork.

Requirements:

Certificate III in Fitting and Machining and Certificate IV in Fitting and Machining will be added advantage.
Minimum 2 years work experience as a Fitter Machinist/ Machinist role.
Excellent knowledge of machining techniques, tooling, and material properties.
Familiarity with industry standards and specifications.
Must have knowledge on emerging/ advance machinery utilized at a machine shop.
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting abilities.
