Role Overview

 


The Boiler Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and safety of the Wood and Diesel fired boilers and steam distribution system within the facility – including overseeing the daily operations of the boiler, ensuring the steamline system is functioning efficiently, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Will supervise a team of technicians, perform troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and handle any issues related to steam generation and distribution.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

 

  • Oversee the operation of the Wood and Diesel fired steam boilers to ensure optimal performance, proper pressure, and safe operation.

  • Continuously monitor boiler performance and maintain detailed records of all activities, including operational logs, maintenance history, and inspections for both the boiler and steamline systems.

  • Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance of boiler systems.

  • Implement and supervise a preventative maintenance schedule to minimize downtime and increase the lifespan of boiler systems.

  • Ensure the proper functioning of the steam distribution system, including steam pipes, valves, PRV, moisture separators, steam traps and condensate systems.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with steamlines, ensuring there are no leaks, blockages, or malfunctions that may affect steam supply.

  • Optimize the steamline system for energy efficiency and minimize steam loss during distribution.

  • Supervise and lead a team of technicians responsible for boiler operation and steamline maintenance.

  • Allocate tasks, monitor work progress, and ensure all safety protocols are followed.

  • Provide training and mentoring to team members to enhance their technical skills and knowledge in boiler and steamline maintenance.

  • Troubleshoot and address any mechanical, electrical, or operational issues related to boilers and steamline systems.

  • Coordinate with the maintenance team to perform corrective actions and repairs.

  • Coordinate repairs, either performed in-house or by external contractors, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

  • Ensure that all repairs are carried out efficiently and that the system returns to normal functioning as quickly as possible.

  • Recommend improvements and modifications to the boiler and steamline systems that may result in energy savings or efficiency improvements.

  • Maintain adequate spare parts, tools and materials for repairs and preventative maintenance.

  • Work with the maintenance and operations teams to address any steam-related issues impacting production or other facility functions.

  • Assist engineers for maintenance planning during weekend / shutdowns including annual shut down

  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.

 

 

Ideal Candidate

 

 

  • Trade Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Fitting & Machining, or Boiler Operations.

  • At least 5-7 years of practical experience operating and maintaining industrial boilers.

  • Strong knowledge of steam boiler operation, pumps, and ancillary systems.

  • Practical skills in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and control issues.

  • Familiarity with safety codes and operational regulations
