The Fiji Rugby Football Union (‘FRFU’) Is based In the Nation’s capital of Suva and administers the sport of Rugby Union In FIJI. The major responsibility of the FRFU is to administer, develop and nurture the game of rugby at all levels from Community to High Performance, for men and women, boys and girls.
The following opportunity exists within the Fiji Rugby Football Union, and we are seeking to recruit an appropriately qualified, highly experienced, knowledgeable and motivated leader for this senior position.

1. FIJIAN DRUA & FIJIANA HEAD COACH

Role Summary
The Fijian Drua and Fijlana Head Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, selection and coaching of the Fijian Drua Women and the National Women’s XVs Senior Team. The Head Coach is ultimately responsible for team performance both on and off the field and will lead the team at all Super W, International competitions and tournaments. Including the prestigious Rugby World Cup. Lead and provide the technical direction to the Women’s XVs high performance program and be actively involved in the development and support of high-potential Fijian players, and staff, across the performance pathway. Setting the HP team culture, standards and behaviors is fundamental to this role. As well as leading the players, coaches, performance support, management and operational staff the Head Coach plays an important and high-profile ambassadorial role for the team, the broader Fiji Rugby Union and the game within Fiji, the Pacific and across the globe.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee, lead and deliver all planning, scheduling, coaching and selection of the National senior squad/team In consultation with the High-Performance Manger, Women’s (HPMW)
• Establish a clear game model / style of play that leverages the competitive advantage/s of Fijian players and the national team
• Establish a detailed player depth chart, holistically develop the players and team during assembly periods and systematically monitor player progress – includes all Fiji eligible targeted players in the Drua as well as other professional and semi-professional Southern and Northern hemisphere clubs and competitions
• Establish and deliver an effective senior player leadership group and regular engagement and development for these leaders
• Build effective relationships with key personnel In these clubs to Influence and support the develop of these priority Fijian players
• Attract, develop and retain a world leading group of coaches, support staff and management with appropriate expertise and cultural capability to maximise the performance of the team
• Integrate and guide the specific technical expertise of all practitioners and staff within the performance science, medical and analysis teams
• Lead and role model high performance behaviors, a winning mindset and embed values and standards that unite and inspire the Fljiana and our Fijian people
• Asa key member of the Fiji Rugby Union Senior Leadership team contribute to the overall performance of the HP program and assist in the prioritization of financial resources and budgeting where required and appropriate
• Represent Fiji Rugby at international forums and service / support our valued commercial sponsors and partners when required

Key Performance indicators (KPIS)

1. Leadership and coaching:
• Effective leadership and coaching of theDrua and Fijlana national team
• Clear game model and style of play with clear measures/metrics to track on-field progression over time
• Drive a high performance culture through trust, collaboration, standards and discipline (on and off-field
• Ensure the team has world leading fitness levels and discipline to compete and win against the best nations In the world

2. Planning:
• Develop and execute a world class RWC 2025 campaign plan, Including priority HP Union (Tier 1) fixture planning, in consultation with HPMW and other key stakeholders
• Ensure a systematic approach to learning, reviews, pre-brief / debriefs with the right level of Independence and scrutiny to drive continuous improvement
• Develop and guide a fit for purpose player depth chart, selection process and performance monitoring framework

3. People:
• Prioritise recruitment, development, support, retention and collaboration of national team coaches, support staff and management
• Ensure all staff have Individual Performance and Development Plans and undertake regular professional development and upskilling – with a particular focus on high potential ‘in-country’ Fijian HP staff

4. Pathways:
• Contribute to the development of priority high potential pathway players, coaches and performance support staff
• Ensure a close and productive working relationship with local provinces and their respective coaches and staff

5. Stakeholders:
• Establish productive relationships and effective reporting to HPMW, GM of HP and the CEO I Board where required
• Effectively influence and manage key external relationships with particular focus on World Rugby, Fiji Sports Commission and FASNOC
• Build effective relationships with commercial partners, media and other key stakeholders
• Contribute to the broader FIJI Rugby HP program – HP strategy, development, advice, etc

 

Qualifications:

1. World Rugby Level 3 High Performance coach qualification or equivalent.
2. Tertiary qualifications In sports coaching, teaching, management, business or a like field (desirable but not essential)’
Experience:
3. Proven Head Coach (or minimum Senior Coach) experience at international and/or professional club rugby (Super Rugby, Premiership, FPC, etc.)
4. Proven performance and success developing teams and Individual players, particularly In resource ‘constrained’ environments
5. Superior knowledge and expertise on the trends of the international game
6. international network and proven Influencing skills to enhance HP rugby programs
7. Direct experience in pathway / age group program development to accelerate the skills and competencies of players, coaches and staff

Competencies:

8. Understanding of Fijian culture and requirements to maximise the performance of Fijian rugby players and teams
9. Quality planner, well organized and proven high level communication skills
10. Experience managing teams of people to deliver performance in a psychologically safe performance environment
11. Demonstrated learning capacity and ability to adapt and resolve complex programs in a timely manner
