Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

Carpenters Fiji PTE Limited, one of the largest organizations in the private sector is seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced individual for the Assistant OHS Officer position to be based in our Head Office in Suva.

Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Safety Inspections: Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards and assess compliance with safety standards. Document findings and recommend corrective actions.

 

2. Incident Reporting: Assist in the investigation of workplace incidents and accidents, compiling reports, and identifying root causes to prevent future occurrences.

3. Training and Education: Help organize and facilitate safety training sessions for employees, covering topics such as emergency procedures, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and hazard recognition.

 

4. Policy Implementation: Support the implementation of OHS policies and procedures, ensuring all employees are aware of and adhere to safety practices.

 

5. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, incident reports, and compliance audits.

 

6. Collaboration: Work closely with management and staff to promote a culture of safety, providing guidance on OHS matters and supporting safety initiatives.

 

6. Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on relevant local, state, and federal safety regulations, assisting in ensuring the organization’s compliance with all legal requirements.

 

7. Emergency Preparedness: Assist in the development and testing of emergency response plans and participate in drills to ensure readiness.

 

 

Requirements:

·       Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.

·       1-2 years’ experience in a safety role or relevant internship is an asset.

·       Familiarity with OHS regulations, safety practices, and risk assessment methodologies.

·       Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

·       A proactive approach to problem-solving.

·       Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

·       Strong commitment to promoting a safe workplace culture
