MARINE ENGINEER (SHORE BASED) – South Sea Cruises Group

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

South Sea Cruises Group (SSCG) is Fiji’s largest and leading marine tourism operator offering a range of award-winning products and services throughout the stunning Mamanuca & Yasawa Islands. SSCG operates a modern fleet of fast catamarans, an overnight cruise ship, a modern sailing catamaran, several speed boats, as well as Fiji’s two most popular day trip islands.

We are currently seeking to recruit two (2) Marine Engineers to be positioned at our Port Denarau base, and to play a role within our Engineering department.

The successful candidate will need to: 

• Have pride in and take ownership of their position
• Complete all tasks to a high standard
• Guarantee their workmanship and not be afraid to ask questions when unsure
• Ensure that all standard operating procedures comply with vessel specifications, quality standards and regulatory requirements.
• Study and be well versed with all repair & maintenance requirements across all Company assets work alongside both onboard, and onsite engineers of the same.
• Ensure they are well familiarized with the machinery, safety equipment, procedures, correct operation of machineries, required maintenance, and professional upkeep of all assets and be prepared to undertake training for the same
• Ensure all safety and preventative checks are completed as requested reporting to the Maintenance Manager
• Ensure that all safety procedures and regulations are complied with, including periodic checks on safety equipment and procedures.
• Assist in the development of upskilling the wider engineering team where applicable
• Track and report monthly tasks as assigned to the Maintenance Manager

Requirements, Qualifications and Skills

• Experience with diesel engines, pumps, hydraulics and basic electrics compulsory
• Trade certificate or engineering qualifications preferred
• Marine experience is preferred but not essential
• Valid Fiji driver’s license.
• Be prepared to work outside of normal working hours as expected in a 24/7/365 industry
• Follow instructions at all times
• Willing to work rostered weekends on call
• Whilst this role is based at Port Denarau, the successful candidate must be willing to undertake some travel and stay onboard overnight Vessel’s or Island Resorts on an ad hoc basis.

The successful candidate shall report directly to the Maintenance Manager and alongside the Engineering Supervisor.
