Morris Hedstrom is the oldest Supermarket Chain, serving Fiji since 1868. We are seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced individual for the following position to be based in our main office in Suva. Butcher
Responsibilities:
- Monitor sales activities to ensure that customers receive efficient service and quality products
- Ensure shrinkage is minimized through proper utilization of standard practice and maintain proper quality control, product level and conditions of product
- Review inventory and ensure stock is available at all times
- Ensure stock rotation on a range of produce, whilst maintaining hygiene and housekeeping standards at all times
- Prevention of wastage, damage, shrinkage, etc.
- Sensible use of resources e.g. energy, equipment, wrapping
- Maintain food hygiene and safety standards in the department
- Ensure items in tray pack are regularly checked for quality
- Cut, trim and shape standard cuts of meat to size
- Process carcasses into primary and secondary cuts
- Pack and store products for display and sale
- Order supplies from warehouse or wholesalers, as well as weigh and check stock on receipt
- Assemble and operate mincers, grinders, mixers, patty–forming or sausage–forming machines, and bandsaws
- Use correct detergents and sanitizers to prevent food poisoning and contamination or premises and equipment
- Assist clients (including hotels and restaurants), estimating food portions and production costs
- Prepare marinated meats, value–added and ready–to–cook dishes
- Advise customers about alternative cuts, cooking methods, storage requirements and nutritional aspects of meat
- Work with a variety of knives, hand tools, power equipment (including mincers, mixers and bandsaws) and computer operated scales.
- Ensure tray packs of meats are properly labeled including price ticketing
- To ensure that customers receive the highest standard of service
- Add in sales and cross selling
- Store presentation – merchandising and house keeping
- Successfully pass on any promotional information to customers
- To ensure that any stock movement is as accurate as possible
- Training including health and safety
- To encourage and promote local marketing initiatives
- Accurate stock taking procedures
- Pack and store products for display and sale
- Order supplies from warehouse or wholesalers, as well as weigh and check stock on receipt
- Housekeeping and Merchandising
- Stocks shelves and displays
- Ensure price is update and tickets are changed immediately for any price change of products
- Adhere to and participate in all aspects of compliance, training, safe work practices and so forth in relation to Workplace Health & Safety.
- Support management in providing a safe environment for fellow employees and customers by identifying and rectifying hazards and/ or equipment in need of maintenance
Requirements:
- At least form 6 qualified
- 1-2 years’ experience in a similar role would be an advantage however extensive training will be provided
- Strong communication skills.
- Able to read and follow product specification guidelines
- Able to count change back to customers.
- Trainable or have cash register experience.
- Able to work with cleaning chemicals
- Able to work holidays, weekends, or any shift needed
