The Fiji Times is looking for an experienced journalist to join our newsroom as Team Leader – News. This is a hands-on newsroom role that supports senior editors by coordinating daily news coverage, guiding reporters, and ensuring stories meet editorial and legal standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily news assignments in line with editorial direction and audience priorities.
- Supervise and support reporters and cadets to deliver timely, well-developed stories across platforms.
- Edit assigned stories to meet house style, accuracy, and legal requirements.
- Report and contribute news stories, with an expectation of producing digital and multimedia content as part of daily coverage.
- Work closely with editors and the digital team to ensure seamless, continuous news delivery.
Requirements
- Experience in news reporting with exposure to newsroom supervision or team leadership.
- Strong understanding of media law, ethics, and editorial standards.
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required by news operations.
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to leadership.
