Basic Industries Pte Limited (BIL) Divisions: Humes Industries and Standard Concrete Industries (SCI) Vacancy No: 01/2026 ENVIRONMENTAL & SUSTAINABILITY OFFICER (X1) The Environmental and Sustainability Officer is responsible for safeguarding the environment through the development, implementation, and oversight of policies and initiatives across BIL’s manufacturing, construction, and quarrying operations. This role moves beyond basic compliance to drive the company’s ESG agenda, ensuring that BIL remains a leader in sustainable manufacturing, construction, and quarrying, and responsible mining in Fiji.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement environmental policies, programs, and strategic initiatives to ensure the protection and preservation of the natural environment.
  • Ensure 100% adherence to the Fiji Environment Acts and all relevant government environmental policies.
  • Manage the application, renewal, and compliance of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Waste Management Licenses, and Quarry Leases.
  • Conduct Environmental Aspect and Impact Assessments for new and existing projects to identify and mitigate potential environmental hazards.
  • Establish and review environmental plans, conducting regular site audits for dust suppression, water quality (siltation ponds), and noise levels at quarries and batching plants.
  • Lead the response to environmental incidents and coordinate all clean-up and remediation activities.
  • Oversee progressive quarry rehabilitation plans to ensure site restoration aligns with lease requirements and ESG goals.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date environmental records and documentation in line with BIL’s digital transformation goals.
  • Prepare detailed environmental reports for management and the Board, tracking key sustainability metrics and KPIs.
  • Conduct environmental awareness programs for employees, contractors, and community stakeholders to foster a culture of environmental stewardship.

Requirements

  • A Degree in Environmental Science from a recognised university.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in a similar role, ideally within the mining, quarrying, or heavy manufacturing sectors.
  • A valid group 2 driving license is required for site inspections.
  • Deep understanding of Fiji’s environmental regulatory landscape and international sustainability standards.
  • Meticulous in monitoring site conditions and maintaining compliance documentation.
  • Ability to clearly communicate environmental risks and requirements to both on-site operational staff and senior management.
  • Capacity to design and implement practical remediation solutions in high-risk industrial environments.
