•Estimator (QS)

Overview
The Quantity Surveyor (Estimator) is responsible for providing comprehensive cost estimates and analysis for construction projects. They play a critical role in the pre-construction phase, ensuring that projects are planned and budgeted effectively to meet the client’s requirements and achieve profitability for the construction company.

 

 

Responsibilities

– Interpret and analyze construction drawings, specifications, and project documents to quantify and price all necessary materials, labor, and equipment for the project
– Prepare detailed cost estimates, bills of quantities, and tender documents for the bidding process
– Collaborate with the project management team, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather accurate pricing information and ensure the completeness of the estimates
– Identify and analyze potential cost-saving opportunities, such as alternative materials, construction methods, or procurement strategies
– Develop and maintain comprehensive cost databases, pricing schedules, and historical cost records to support future estimating efforts
– Participate in pre-construction meetings, site visits, and design review sessions to provide input on constructability, value engineering, and cost optimization
– Monitor and track changes in material prices, labor rates, and market conditions that may impact project costs
– Prepare cost control reports, change orders, and variance analyses to support project financial management
– Provide guidance and training to junior estimators or engineers on best practices for cost estimation and analysis
– Assist in the development of company-wide estimating standards, templates, and procedures to improve consistency and efficiency
– Maintain strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and industry partners to stay informed of market trends and pricing updates
– Collaborate with the project management team to monitor and control project costs throughout the construction phase

 

 

Qualifications

– Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field
– Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Estimator, or Cost Consultant in the construction industry
– Professional certification as a Quantity Surveyor (e.g., RICS, AACE) or Professional Estimator (e.g., ASPE, AACE) is preferred
– Comprehensive understanding of construction materials, methods, and cost-estimating principles
– Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation
– Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify cost-saving opportunities and mitigate risks
– Strong financial acumen and ability to prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and variance analyses
– Proficient in the use of estimating software, spreadsheet applications, and other relevant technology
– Effective communication and presentation skills to collaborate with the project team and stakeholders
– Knowledge of construction contract types, procurement strategies, and project delivery methods
– Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing project requirements
– Commitment to continuous learning and staying up-to-date with industry trends and best practices
