You typically need a Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field from a recognised university such as FNU or USP. Some employers also value certifications like CCNA, Huawei, or Ericsson telecom training. Fresh graduates are usually accepted, as the role is designed for early-career engineers.

What does a Graduate Engineer do day-to-day?

Expect a mix of assisting with network planning and maintenance, site visits to towers and equipment rooms, data analysis, and supporting senior engineers on projects. You may rotate across departments like transmission, radio access, or IT infrastructure during your graduate programme. Documentation, reporting, and safety compliance are also regular parts of the job.

What is the work culture like for engineers in Fiji?

Fijian workplaces tend to be collaborative and relationship-focused, with respect for hierarchy and senior colleagues being important. Punctuality and professionalism are expected, especially in telecom roles where network uptime matters. Community involvement and teamwork are often valued alongside technical skills.

What career growth can I expect as a Graduate Engineer?

Graduate programmes typically last one to two years before moving into roles like Network Engineer, Project Engineer, or specialist positions. With experience and further certifications, you can progress toward senior engineering, team leadership, or management roles. Telecom experience in Fiji is also transferable to regional markets like Australia and New Zealand.

What benefits are typically offered with this role in Fiji?

Common benefits include annual leave, sick leave, medical insurance or health cover, and contributions to the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF). Larger employers like telecom companies often add performance bonuses, staff mobile plans, and training support. Specific packages vary by employer and contract type.

How do I apply, and what do employers look for?

Applications are usually submitted through the company's careers page or via job portals like Fiji Jobs or LinkedIn, with a CV, academic transcript, and cover letter. Employers look for strong academics, practical project or internship experience, good communication skills, and willingness to work in field conditions. Highlighting any telecom, networking, or hands-on lab experience will strengthen your application.
