The role also involves coordinating between engineering teams, procurement, and clients to keep projects on schedule. Expect regular reporting to senior management or the board.

What is the work culture like for senior roles in Fiji?

Fijian workplaces tend to be relationship-driven, so building trust with staff, unions where relevant, and community stakeholders matters greatly. Punctuality and professionalism are expected, but there is also strong emphasis on respect, teamwork, and cultural sensitivity across Fiji's diverse workforce. Senior leaders are often visible figures who mentor staff and engage with the wider community.

What career progression can I expect after being a Head of Operations?

A Head of Operations typically progresses toward General Manager, Country Manager, or Chief Operating Officer roles, either within the same company or by moving to larger regional employers. In Fiji's smaller market, demonstrated results and industry networks significantly accelerate advancement. Some professionals also move into consulting or start their own ventures using their operational expertise.

What benefits are usually offered with senior operations roles in Fiji?

Common benefits include annual leave (typically around 20 working days per year under Fiji's employment laws), sick leave, medical insurance or medical aid coverage, and contributions to the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF). Specific packages vary by employer and are negotiable based on experience.

How should I apply, and what do Fijian employers look for in candidates?

Apply through the company's advertised channels—usually email or online job portals—with a tailored CV highlighting measurable operational achievements and relevant certifications. Employers in Fiji value proven leadership, hands-on problem-solving, knowledge of the local business environment, and references from previous roles. Prepare for interviews that assess both technical competence and your ability to lead diverse teams.
