LEGAL OFFICER – Shop N Save Supermarket Group

Shop N Save Supermarket Group, Fiji’s leading retail businesses, is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Legal Officer to join its team. Reporting directly to the Senior Legal Counsel, the successful candidate will provide legal support across the Group’s operations and management functions, working within a dynamic retail environment. This role will be based in the Central and Western Division. The successful candidate will be expected to spend 3 out of their 6 months’ probation period in Suva for training purposes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Legal Advisory: Provide timely, practical legal advice and guidance to management and various departments within the Group.
  • Contracts & Documentation: Draft, review, and negotiate a range of agreements, leases, licenses, and deeds on behalf of the Group.
  • Research & Legal Opinions: Conduct legal research and prepare well-reasoned opinions, policies, and reports on regulatory and legal matters affecting the business.
  • Litigation & Dispute Resolution: Assist in managing litigation, debt recovery, and employment-related disputes, while liaising with external solicitors, counsel, and regulatory bodies.
  • Property & Real Estate Matters: Support property acquisitions, disposals, and leasing arrangements, including due diligence, title reviews, and preparation of related legal documentation.
  • Corporate Governance: Maintain accurate statutory registers and corporate records in compliance with governance requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Monitor changes in legislation and regulation and assist in implementing appropriate compliance measures across the Group.
  • Policy Development: Contribute to the development and review of internal policies and compliance frameworks.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential legal and commercial risks and escalate significant matters with practical recommendations.
  • Cross Departmental Support: Provide legal guidance to other business units on contractual, employment, consumer, and property-related matters.
  • Records Management: Maintain organized contract, litigation, and compliance registers, as well as confidential legal files.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strong working relationships with internal teams, external advisers, and regulatory authorities.
  • General Duties: Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Legal Counsel or senior management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree and admission to practice law in Fiji
  • Minimum 5 years’ post admission experience in corporate/commercial law
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and compliance frameworks
  • Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication skills

Salary

$40,000 per annum
