The Program
The Fiji Program Support Facility (the Facility) was established in 2017 to support and implement Australia’s aid programs such as health, education, emergency preparedness and response and governance in Fiji. The Facility also supports the Australia Awards in Fiji and Tuvalu. The Facility integrates cross-cutting themes, including gender equality, disability and social inclusion, climate change and Disaster Risk Reduction, across sectoral programs. In particular, the Facility seeks to strengthen program outcomes by better addressing the needs of targeted beneficiaries including those who are often marginalised.
Australia supports Fiji’s Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management (MRMDDM), particularly the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), to prepare for and respond to emergencies, such as cyclones and the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of the Australian Government’s assistance, the Emergency Preparedness and Response Program supports locally led emergency preparedness and response in Fiji in line with Government of Fiji’s Priority and also contributes to system strengthening for long term resilience. The Facility has managed the PRF, enabling the swift release of emergency funds to assist the Government of Fiji, including the Ministry of Education Heritage and Arts
