SENIOR BOAT CAPTAIN – Navini Island Resort Ltd

JOB DESCRIPTION & SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

The role is to supervise and safely operate boats, and the captain must know how to do everything onboard. This includes efficient and safe operation of vessels and equipment, daily inspections and cleaning, troubleshooting engine issues, and ensuring compliance with local regulations. Secondary role includes assisting with water sports, general garden work, and beach duties. Ensure all functions are carried out in a timely manner, and all guest services are provided to a high standard.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

· Oversee all operations onboard the vessel, including maintenance and compliance with local regulations

· Steer and operate vessels using equipment such as radar, compass, radios, buoys, lights

· Read gauges and ensure safe levels of fuel, oil and hydraulic fluid

· Inspect vessels before every departure to ensure seaworthiness, efficiency and safe operation of vessel and equipment

· Ensure basic sea safety procedures are followed by all crew and passengers

· Anchor, moor, dock and undock vessels safely and securely

· Be adept in understanding weather patterns and moor boats accordingly

· Daily cleaning, checking and preparation of vessels to ensure they are in optimum condition

· Direct and coordinate crew members to perform necessary tasks, and train as required

· Monitor the loading and offloading of passengers and cargo

· Coordinate with management on procuring fuel, supplies, maintenance, et cetera

· Respond to maintenance issues in a timely manner

· Maintain all onboard equipment, and keep detailed records

· Effectively respond to risks and natural disaster warnings

· Communicate with the guests in a professional manner and ensure they are comfortable during the journey

· Maintain a good and healthy relationship with internal and external parties

 

 

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

· Valid certification for Class 6 Master Engineer or above

· Proven experience as a boat captain in open waters

· Experience in all types of weather conditions

· Familiarity with local waters

· Firm knowledge of marine craft communication, signaling, and navigation systems

· Strong customer service skills and ability to interact with guests in a way that is professional, friendly and reassuring

· Able to easily multitask and be willing to assist in other areas such as grounds and beaches.

 

This position offers a competitive starting salary, island based with accommodation and meals provided. Days off arrangements are flexible.
