SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEER – Hfc Bank

An exciting opportunity is available for the role of Senior Systems Engineer, based at Head Office – Suva and reporting to the Manager IT Systems Designate. The successful candidate will support the Bank’s Systems Team by ensuring the security, stability, and availability of the Bank’s core banking systems and ICT infrastructure across both Primary and Disaster Recovery (DR) sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure high system availability across Primary and DR sites.
  • Maintain the security, reliability, and performance of the Bank’s systems, servers, storage, backups, and disaster recovery environment.
  • Support the planning, implementation, maintenance, and administration of ICT systems and projects.
  • Lead DR and Business Continuity Plan (BCP) testing every six months.
  • Assist in the implementation of system-related projects and provide technical support where required.
  • Manage incidents, problems, and changes, including root cause analysis.
  • Provide second and third-level technical support to the IT Support team.
  • Ensure IT best practices and industry standards are followed across the Bank.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for server and storage infrastructure.
  • Monitor server and storage systems to ensure smooth operations.
  • Assist with audit issues and compliance requirements.
  • Identify and implement process improvements within the Systems Team and wider IT unit.
  • Support the management of IT costs and budgets.
  • Provide support to the Manager IT Systems and Head of IT as required.

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Engineering, Computing Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in enterprise IT infrastructure and systems administration within a medium to large organization, preferably in the banking or financial services sector.
  • Strong experience in virtualization technologies including VMware vSphere, Nutanix, enterprise storage platforms, and virtual infrastructure management.
  • Strong cross-platform infrastructure experience across Microsoft Windows Server and Linux environments, including enterprise application hosting, virtualization platforms, middleware systems, and infrastructure services.
  • Experience managing Microsoft technologies including Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Exchange Hybrid environments, and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Hands-on experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions such as Veeam Backup & Replication, replication technologies, and DR testing.
  • Good understanding of network infrastructure, firewalls, load balancers, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and infrastructure security best practices.
  • Experience in infrastructure security management, vulnerability remediation, access control systems, endpoint security, and email security solutions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure, system, performance, and connectivity issues across multiple environments and platforms.
  • Experience working with vendors, service providers, and project teams to implement, maintain, and support enterprise technology solutions.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently and under pressure.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to operational stability, security, compliance, and service availability.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare technical documentation, reports, and management updates.
  • Sound understanding of banking operations, IT governance, operational risk, and change management processes.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and provide after-hours support during incidents, maintenance activities, disaster recovery exercises, and critical system upgrades.
  • Strong teamwork, mentoring, and leadership capabilities with the ability to support and guide junior engineers and IT support staff.
