TECHNICAL ADVISOR – MARINE LITTER PREVENTION FIJI – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical advice and support on the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of activities related to plastic waste management, marine litter prevention, and environmental sustainability.
• Assist in the development, review, and implementation of policies, regulations, and guidelines relating to plastics, waste management, extended producer responsibility, and related incentive mechanisms.
• Prepare technical reports, policy briefs, submissions, and other project documentation to support decision-making and project delivery.
• Promote gender-responsive and inclusive approaches in project design and implementation, ensuring engagement of women, minorities, and vulnerable groups.
• Coordinate and support field activities, including waste audits, monitoring exercises, and stakeholder consultations.
• Strengthen collaboration between government agencies, regional partners, private sector stakeholders, civil society organisations, and development partners to advance plastic waste management initiatives.
• Represent and support the participation of the Department of Environment and CleanSeas in relevant national and regional forums, technical working groups, and coordination mechanisms.
• Facilitate the use of regional recycling initiatives and mechanisms to improve the collection, transport, and recycling of materials.
• Contribute to the development and dissemination of knowledge products, best practices, awareness campaigns, and behaviour change initiatives on marine litter prevention.
• Support project planning, monitoring, reporting, and coordination activities, including managing consultants and providing assistance to project experts and stakeholders as required.
• Undertake additional project-related tasks assigned by the Department of Environment and the CleanSeas PMU.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in ecology, marine sciences, biology, or any other relevant field
• At least 5 years of professional experience in the fields of circular economy, (plastic) waste management and prevention and other relevant fields.
• Sound awareness of gender-sensitive issues
• Dedicated, reliable team player with good diplomatic and intercultural skills and a
• Experience with an international and inter-cultural working environment
• Excellent organizational skills
• High standards of confidentiality and loyalty
