The Assistant Systems Engineer will support IT Services operations, specifically within the server infrastructure, which will include monitoring, maintenance and management of services. The appointee will assist in maintain services specifically to the Systems Infrastructure across all USP campuses.

The Person We Seek
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
– A degree and postgraduate qualification from a relevant discipline; and
– Four (4) years of relevant experience and management expertise;
– In exceptional cases and only with the prior endorsement of the Executive Director People and Workforce Strategy and upon approval from the Vice-Chancellor and President, a degree or professional qualification with significant relevant industry/professional experience may be considered.
– Excellent communication skills, in particular written communication in the form of business and technical report writing;
– Experience managing projects to successful completion;
– Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team;
– Advanced knowledge and experience in all aspects of the management of Linux and UNIX operating systems in a large infrastructure environment;
– Advanced knowledge and experience in managing a multi-site Microsoft Active Directory environment in an enterprise;
– Understanding of Group Policy and Endpoint Management to manage the entire desktop and server environment for the university;
– Knowledge and experience in storage environment across our 12 countries inclusive of restoration and archiving technologies;
– Ability to install Operating Systems on new servers, and upgrade Operating Systems as required.

Preference will be given to applicants with:
– Postgraduate qualification in Computing, Information Science and or related Engineering field;
– Any relevant technical certification on relevant IP networking, Server Systems, PC, OS or application technologies will be an added advantage;
– Windows Server and Red Hat Linux training / certification;
– Understanding of cloud services, which include Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Office 365 services;
– Experience with ICT technologies / equipment including networking with Linux is a plus;
– Knowledge and experience in managing and configuration of specific server based applications; some examples are Moodle, Oracle Banner, Microsoft Active Directory, etc;
– Experience in systems infrastructure management and the ability to design server infrastructure solutions for campus needs;
– Virtualization experience with VMware and Nutanix;
– Sound knowledge of operating systems security and programming skills in scripting.

The position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.

Salary Range: FJ $50,184 to FJ $61,289 per annum
